About Chinese Clothing

To Start With

  1. All our clothing is custom made according to the measurements you provide, and with your choice from over two hundred fabrics!

  2. We have a unique and powerful custom clothing system that allows you to conveniently define each garment as you shop. So many sites require you to remember things and enter them later, and virtually every site makes you enter all of your measurements repeatedly if you want to buy more than one thing! And what if you come back later? At Transprism Shop all of this is easy, convenient and flexible. See below for more about how it works and what it can do for you.

  3. Clothing is all specially tailored for you by real Shanghai tailors. These Chinese tailors have many years of experience custom tailoring the kinds of clothing you see at our site.

  4. Orders only take 1 to 2 weeks to tailor. Since we work with a few tailors, this is still true even if you order several garments.

  5. It is good to read the Ordering Custom Clothing section below before ordering. Note that this doesn't cover the basic ordering information common to all orders (please see the How to Order page).

  6. Please note that custom clothes have a separate refund policy. [Click Here]

Ordering Custom Clothing

  1. Choose Your Garment - Browse our Custom Chinese Clothing Catalog until you find the garment you like. When you click the thumbnail image to go to the detail page for that garment, you can click the image there to see a closer view. You'll also see 2 buttons: Add Measurements and Choose Fabric. Please be sure to do both of these things before you click the  Add To Cart  button.

  2. Add Clothing Measurements - We recommend you Add Measurements first. If you are not already logged in, you'll be taken to the login page first, since this information is saved for you as a customer. If you are not a member, you can join easily at this time also. After joining you should be returned to the garment you were buying, where you can click Add Measurements and go directly to the right page.

Important Things to Note About Clothing Measurements
    * Your measurements are saved and will be there whenever you want to add more clothes to your cart, or when you shop again.
    * You can even save multiple sets of measurements if you're buying for more than one person.
    * Better yet, if you've entered measurements for one type of garment, any of those measurements that apply to another type will be loaded in for you automatically when shopping. For example, if you've entered measurments for a blouse, when you want to buy a cheongsam (or other dress), most of these measurements you entered before will already be filled in: Height, Sleeve Length, Shoulder Width, Waist, etc. Even pants will use Waist, Hip, and maybe other measuremnts you entered for the blouse. This will happen even when you shop later!
    * You can find out more about taking measurements by clicking here, but there will be plenty of links to this page when you're buying your clothing.

  3. Choose a Fabric - When you're done adding or choosing your measurement set, if you haven't selected a fabric you'll be sent to the fabrics selection automatically. Here you can simply pick your favorite type and design (click the selector cirlce under it) and click Add Fabric.

    Interesting Information on Our Fabrics
    * We now have at least 5 distinct types of fabric, and are working on adding more all the time. We will soon have over 200 choices.
    * You can browse the fabrics and see prices here.
    * Click here to learn more about different kinds of fabrics.

  4. Add to Cart - Once you have both measurements and fabric for your garment, you should see your choices above the buttons, and the buttons will say "Change.." instead of "Add.." or "Choose..". When you have both, click  Add To Cart  and you're on your way!

  5. Better All the Time! - At Transprism Shop we're very proud of our custom clothing, our traditional and modern Chinese styles and fashion, and the flexibility and convenience of the clothes shopping experience. Please give us a try and let us know how we stack up to the alternatives. If you ever have problems or suggestions we welcome your help and thoughtfulness, and sometimes we even offer discounts and rebates for that!

All About Fabrics

  • Silk Brocade Satin is the only fabric we offer without real silk (mostly rayon), but is affordable and very attractive. Most other fabrics will and add some amount to the cost of the garment. This will be clearly stated and included automatically when you select your fabric(s).
  • Silk Tapestry Satin has slightly less luster than Silk Brocade and is the thickest fabric we offer. It is a genuine silk blend with fine and detailed tapestry weaves. It is also the most plush and resilient of the brocaded fabrics traditionally used in Chinese clothing. It is terrific for men's suits as well as our many women's designs.

Clothing Maintenance

General Care Tips
  • Note that stains can be difficult to remove and try to avoid them.
  • Avoid fabric coming in contact with rough or sharp objects, which can hook the fine weave and cause dulling or frayed threads.
  • Rolling up sleaves can cause creasing and stretching.
  • Most cheongsam should be hand-washed or drycleaned (see fabrics below).
  • When washing a cheongsam, always avoid strong detergents and gently wash by hand if possible.
  • Ironing is fine regardless of fabric (see below for temperatures), but it is best to put a damp cloth between the iron and the dress to avoid softening and color change.
  • After washing and/or ironing, hang it (preferably in a well-ventilated area) to cool and dry fully before storing.
  • Cheongsam should be hung on wide hanger and not folded while storing. Mothballs may be a good idea, but avoid the campher variety, which can cause yellowing of lighter fabrics.
Fabrics
  • Brocade Satin - Brocade satin clothing are suggested to be dry-cleaned or water washed gently, do not . Fabric can be hand washed or washed on a gentle cycle (please avoid washing with light-colored clothing that absorb color, in case the dye will spread). Iron on low heat. Hang dry in a cool ventilating place.
  • Silk - Gently hand-wash with neutral detergent. Hang to dry where it is not too hot and not under the sun. It is best to iron when almost dry, using a white cloth under the iron. Higher heat is OK, but avoiding squirting water on fabric (may leave water marks).
